Scraps of Darkness July Design Team Reveal & Tutorial

I have a project using this gorgeous Gypsy Summer kit and quick tutorial to share with you today.

This is one of my favorite kits of all time with the beautiful blues, pinks and yellows! Very summery and fresh! Those Graphic 45 papers are a delight to work with.

I have layered many of the elements in the kit along with adding in a few little pieces from past kits and my own stash. I've thrown in some twine which I misted and some fibers for texture. The large chipboard flourishes are from Gina's Designs. I covered them in gesso first then embossed them with Shimmerz Paints Enamelz in "Sparkliscious" They turned out gorgeous very sparkly! I then inked the edges and some of the inner spots with chalk ink.

I created the pink splattered background with a plastic sheet/ trash bag technique. I saw Heidi Kelley do this technique on the Shimmerz blog and tried it out. I loved the way my background turned out. In fact I'm a little addicted to this technique and you will see in again on my Scraps of Elegance projects in tomorrows reveal.

The little turtle was colored with Faber Castell Big Brush Markers. They work really well for coloring wooden embellishments.

This is a sample of how I created my background misting. I grabbed on of the plastic bags our kit papers come in. I scrunched up the bag and then misted it.

You could use several colors but here I just used one.

Then take your paper and place it face down on the plastic bag. Give it a little tap to absorb some of the misting.

Here is what it looks likes after it's lifted off the plastic bag.

I then took the plastic bag and dabbed it on the paper with the remainder of the mist.

Here is what it looks like all done! Try it you will like it!!
