Altered Altoid Box- Scraps of Darkness Online Store

Hey Gang!

Probably one of my most favorite projects EVER right here! I can see myself buying Altoids on a weekly basis. There was time when I was addicted to the cinnamon ones. In fact they helped me quit smoking..... but that's a story for another day.

You have heard me talk about the Scraps of Darkness/Elegance kits and if you have been following me lately you will have seen me chat about our on line store. You can find it ---- HERE.

This project was inspired by the gorgeous Melissa Frances Flea Market Applique. You can grab one for yourself in the store ---- HERE.

I envisioned it all rusty with a patina finish enhancing a box of sorts. Lately I have been into vintage art dolls/ vintage images silhouette cut and book pages. I decided to created a shadowbox from an altoid tin and bring it to life with lots of grungy texture.

First  I painted the Melissa Frances piece and the altoid tin in black gesso found --- HERE

After it dried I used Ranger Distress Crackle Paint in Picket Fence on both pieces. I like the white because I can paint over it in any color. I then went to work with Silks in cinnamon brown --- there is a Nutmeg color in the store that would work just as well found --- HERE.

After that was applied I then went over it in Inka Gold and I have a variety of "smooch" paints from Donna Salazaar that I like to use on metal. I use blues and rusts to give it an aged finish.

After all my painting was done and dry I used Stampendous Gold Encrusted Jewels found---- HERE
and then some beautiful Mini Prill in Spruce --- we have a ton of prills in the shop in a variety of colors you can find them --- HERE  along with Gel Medium to apply them found ---- HERE.

Inside the box I created a beautiful little scene. I used papers from the January Scraps of Darkness Kit. You can find our kit subscriptions ---- HERE.

I used some of the Kaisercraft paper in my background and then layered over it with Blue Fern Checker Bits --- we carry a ton of gorgeous Blue Fern Chipboard you can find it --- HERE. I painted over the chipboard in the Silks Cinnamon Brown and then embossed in Stampendous in Encrusted Jewels in Gold found --- HERE
The image is from Digital Collage Sheets found ---- HERE.

I layered the image over two little rosettes I created with book pages. These were created with a Tim Holtz Die. The little heart was also found in the January Scraps of Darkness Kit.

Inside the tin on the opposite side I used the same Blue Fern Chipboard along with a beautiful Vintaj Arte Metal Buckle found ---- HERE

The quote " I carry your heart in my heart" is taken from some Graphic 45 papers also found in the January Kit. It's nice to have these supplies on hand from kits because you have items that coordinate and are also adding to your stash of supplies. ;)

I've also embossed some little beads and yes I got these in a past kit!
