Vintage

I have another layout to share with you today from Septembers amazing "Passages" kit here at Scraps of Darkness. I went with a dressier vintage look this time.

This is a photo of my great grandparents. Isn't it great?  I made the two larger flowers from the Glitz paper packet that was in the kit. I used my Tim Holtz die for the flower. The leave vine is a sizzix die. I stamped on it with a script stamp. The two circled behind the photo I cut on my Silhouette then I stamped them with one of the stamps that came in the kit.
I try to think of different things to do with Mandy's pins each month. This time I cut the end off it and added a couple of more pieces of netting (we received the brown and cream colored net in our kit) and I added a little more to it and used it on the horizontal.

Thank you for visiting today!

Round Robin at Scraps of Darkness

My turn this week for the Round Robin at SOD. I am following Ashley and oh boy what an awesome layout she created for me to follow. Although that girl did lots of hand stitching on hers! Not me tho.

Tag Your It

( I am aware it should be you're but I did not want the ' in there. I don't feel layouts have to be grammatically correct... because it's art and there are no rules. ;)

On this layout I used our fabulous "Passages" kit from Scraps of Darkness. I masked the background with smooch spray. I typically grow fond of a punch with each kit. This month I have been going with that postal, notebook type theme on a lot of my layouts. I used the notebook punch again on this one. I love it.

I pulled out those grunge board letters again. I ran the "it" through the cuttlebug with an embossing folder and then colored the letters with black and red paint dabber acrylic paints. After applying the paints I wiped them off with a paper towel until I liked how it looked.
I used the brick wall stamp we received in our kit and stamped on a scrap paper. Then I tore the paper into a few pieces and inked the edges. I also bought a scoreboard so I could make my own pleated flowers like the Tim Holtz kind only no die needed!

Come on over to Scraps of Darkness and check out the beautiful kits and fun forums!

September Design Team Reveal- Scraps of Darkness

PASSAGES
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
~ Robert Frost ~
We nearly trampled on each other getting our hands on all the beauty in this kit! Melinda has done it again with an awesome mix of Bo Bunny- Et Cetera collection and Teresa Collins- World Traveler! One of our favorite kits to date.
The Romance and Flora and Fauna add on's compliment this months kit beautifully! Our Color Add on is always a must have including Donna Salazar Mixed Media Inks and Smooch in two forms ( spray and brush).

My first layout is for the sketch that Charolotte creates for us each month.
 Postal
The photo I used for this layout was one I took in Colorado. We had stopped to take some photos and I thought this line of mailboxes looked really cool. Add to that a grunge action and florabella texture in photoshop and there you have it.
I jumped on this months bandwagon of creating a postage stamp edge. Perfect really for this months kit theme. In doing so I visited my friend Lisa Gregory's blog and started to follow  her tutorial for creating the postage edge. HOWEVER being a little too lazy to want to measure every time I want this edge I decided to create a template from it.
I followed Lisa's instructions for one edge of piece of cardstock and then I cut it lengthwise to about 1 inch or so.
Now I just take that edge and line it up with my paper and draw the 1/2 circles on there.
Then I just take my punch and line it up with the curve and punch away. No measuring involved. Lisa G knows I am a tad challenged in that area. (Ask her about the "mini album.") Thanks for the inspiration Lisa!

One of the most versatile dies I own is the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die.  There are just so many different flowers you make with this die. I used it here, stamping on the flower with a set of flourish stamps and then inked the edges with distress ink.

Destination

This is a photograph of my dd (photography credit: Gina Coppolino) and I printed this one out on vellum. Love the translucent effect with the map paper underneath. I used an entire 12 x 12 sheet for the layout and then simply cut a triangle shaped piece to mimic the closure of an envelope. I punched two small circles and wrapped a string around them for a closure.

I was inspired this month by the kit to do lots of inking, masking and stamping. I used a set of flourish stamps I recently picked up and stamped all over this page. I used a lot of rub ons that were in the kit as well. Those cute red doily flowers were in our kit and I cut mine if half as centers for my flowers

ETC

Really, how could I resist this title. Just look at us. Don't we just look like we are thinking etc. etc. etc???
Inspiration comes in all forms and this month I was having difficulty getting the magic to happen with this layout. When lo and behold I saw a layout by Robinzberdz where she used the Giant grungeboard letter. I have that package of letters and I forgot about them! Thanks for the inspiration Robin. I think the giant E was just what I needed to give this piece a boost!

I ran the Big "E" through the cuttlebug with an embossing folder, then I sprayed it with the smooch in color add on. I dabbed a red acrylic paint over it and rubbed it off with a paper towel. I then went over the embossing with a black gel pen and rubbed that off a bit as well. (Photgraphy credit: Gina Coppolino)

Never Let Go

This is a photo of my girls (photgraphy credit: Gina Coppolino) and I used my favorite Holly McCaig Frames on this picture.  I stamped the frame around the cardstock using Primas Build a Frame set of stamps. I also used those flourish stamps I had on hand and scattered them around the page in red ink.
The big flower was die cut from cork. Melinda included a couple of cork discs in the kit. Yes the cuttlebug cuts them. I sprayed it with the beautiful red smooch included in the color add on and them stamped it with a script stamp.

Hope you enjoy this months reveal and be sure to visit the other Design Team Girls to see what they have come up with. If you have any questions on any of my layouts please feel free to contact me. I have added a contact link to my blog. :)
Thank you for visiting me today.  I truly love reading all your sweet comments.

Reveal Day at Scraps of Darkness!!!!

The day has FINALLY  arrived where the SOD design team gets to share what they have worked on with the gorgeous February Telltale Heart Kit! Once again Melinda has put together a kit that is not only beautiful and appropriate for those Valentines Day layouts, but versatile as well. So many possibilities with this one girls!

My first layout is my take on Charlotte's a/k/a Suepup's sketch for this month!
This layout is titled "Be my Valentine" and is a photo of my dd. I happened to have on hand Tattered Angels Stamps and this large heart was perfect for this layout! I stamped the heart in black then used a gold embossing powder on it. Included this month in the color add on at SOD was some Glimmer Glam and I used that to paint the heart. I love the classic black and red combo and the gorgeous black fringe that was in the kit! I have also done a tutorial on how to make a double punch ring as seen on this layout. Check it out here.

This is another photo of my daughter back when she was just barely two! I took this in an azalea garden in our town. As many of you know, I LOVE to edit my photos in PSE and I had so much fun with this one! I added wings and fairy dust. My new found love is "Perfect Pearls." I have had this product for long time but somehow got away from using it. I used it lots this month! I added them to my green leaves ( a sizzix die) and made a verdigris style iron fence out of the Dusty Attic.
I also had Tattered Angels calling cards on hand, which again, were perfect for this kit! I stamped the frame and face onto the card.

This is another photo of my dd. (Next month it will be all photos of my older daughter!) I have to distribute the layouts evenly between the two! LOL  We received this awesome fairy diecut in our kit and I decided to dress mine up! I cut up flower petals and layered them to create her little dress. I added some hot pink glitter to her wings. We also received some beautiful pink Shimmerz in our kit and I used that to color my roses on the calling card. I got the new MS deep border punch and am loving that! The flowers and tiny hot pink roses were in our kit too!!!! Love them!

Love the beautiful red and gold of these papers. I used my edge punch in the same way I did the double punch ring tutorial, to create this frame. We also received this awesome Teresa Collins black blingage. In our kit a black heart flourish die cut was included. I opted to use mine in a different way. I snipped the heart part of it off and used the black flourish end of it around my flowers. Again, I used my perfect pearls in gold, along with some white paint and bronze on my chipboard frame.  This is a photo of my dh and I. This June we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary!
Yes peeps, another layout of this silly child of mine! I took these during one of many massive snow falls this year! Again, I am loving the pink and black combo and the hot pinks in this kit! I used my border punch and trimming it very closely was able to work it around the scallops of my pink paper. I used the double ring punch technique - please see tutorial here- and made the flowers using TH Tattered floral die. The smaller pink flowers are stamps that I used then made into flowers. The gorgeous icy dangle beads and Zva flourish were also in this months kit!

So many pretties in the Telltale Heart kit! Each paper is beautiful front and back and lots of added goodies, like Mandy's signature pins, Zva, Glimmer Glaze oh my! Be sure to visit the DT girls for more inspiration! I know I am heading their way now to see what they have done!
