Vintage Heart Box Scraps of Darkness Beloved Kit

We all have those moments when something we create makes our heart stand still and the projects before that we thought we loved and were our most favorite fall by the wayside into the "What was I thinking" land...

For me this project I'm sharing today is THAT project. The one that was so joyful and fulfilling to create and the finished results are as amazing as I had envisioned.

It all started with the Creativity Add On from the Scraps of Darkness "Beloved" kit for January.

The 12 inch Paper Mache Heart Box was calling me. I wanted to do something with it but what? I could do a box but that is obvious. What else could I do? Hmmmm....
I am always seeking inspiration and I must admit I worry at times as a designer that I'm not going to come up with anything that has a 'wow' factor to it. I strive for that although there are times I fall short.

You know we all pinterest and there I found some heart box inspiration for sure. I came across an altered one that had a shadowbox effect to it and "bam" I was off and running! Excited even!
Well...see for yourself...

I used the bottom portion of the box to create my shadowbox. I first painted the edges inside with Ranger Distress Crackle Paint in Picket Fence. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this stuff. I need to buy it in a gallon form. It cracks beautifully and once it dried I painted over it in Lindys Starburst Spray in Peony Scarlet Red.

I covered the inside front and back with BoBunny Love and Lace "You and Me" papers found in the Coordinating Paper Add On for the kit. You will find this add on sold out but we have a complete online store where you will find all sorts of beautiful papers. There are still some papers left from the Paper Add On this past month - Graphic 45 Mon Amour--- HERE

I covered the outside "wall"of the heart in Kaisercraft Ma Cherie also from the Coordinating Paper Add On.  The inside of the heart "wall" was covered in torn book pages inked in Walnut Distress Ink. I also created fringe for the entire outside of the heart using book pages! This is my new thing now. You will be seeing lots of book page fringe from me. ;)

You can see here how beautifully that Distress Paint crackles and looks amazing with the Lindys. You can also see my fringe which I inked slightly.

A look at the inside shows the book pages on the wall.
I used a fancy zig zag scissor to cut the top edge. I created some large rosette type layers for my image to sit on. I used a score board for it and I punched one edge with a Martha punch. The chipboard was Blue Fern Royal Border Large. This was found in the Main Kit. You can see we have an amazing selection of BLUE FERN studios chipboard in the shop ---- HERE  I cut mine up as I tend to do using as larger wings on my image. I colored it with Lindys same color I used to paint the box then painted on BoBunny Copper Glitter Paste. I used silver pipe cleaners on the inside edge.

I purchased a slew of images from Retro Cafe and this one I used.
I altered her a bit with a skirt from other digi images and such I have on hand. I  used a butterfly from the Kaisercraft paper in the kit - Exquisite from the Ma Cherie Collection. I  cut the butterfly out and dusted the wings in glitter glass and used them on her. The stickers are from the Graphic 45 Sticker Sheet found in the kit. The Main Kit also included little wooden hearts. I painted mine in Silks Acrylic Glaze in Carmen. You can find lots of color mediums in our store ---- HERE. I then covered the hearts in gel medium and dipped them in a red glitter. I also used silver glitter on the outside edge of the box.

Some florals Prima Royal Menagerie- Helena and BoBunny Jewels in Tuxedo were also found in the Main kit and Floral Add On.

The back of the heart is once again covered in the same papers as the inside. I dyed the seam binding myself with the Lindys Mist. This whole ribbon can be undone if you chose to set this box on an easel stand or hang it with "command" strips. Or it can be hung from the ribbon.
