SCRAPS OF DARKNESS DESIGN TEAM REVEAL!!!!!

 Introducing Aprils kit "Foundations"

It's that time of the month ( the 15th--- my favorite) when Scraps of Darkness reveals the kit and the design team shares what they have been working on. This month Melinda put together a kit that left me speechless!!!! Featuring the beautiful "Timepiece" collection from Bo Bunny.
This months kit included beautiful Zva Creative flowers and bling, graphic 45 metal flowers, Tim Holtz Idea-ology just to name a few. Mel also has a color add on each month which is always a perfect fit for the kit and a wonderful chance to add mists and shimmers to your collection. This month we received 3 bottles of mist and 3 containers of Shimmerz in addition to a beautiful script balcony stamp by "LaBlanche."

My first layout was for our sketch challenge over at SOD. We have the very talented Charlotte a/k/a Suepup as our sketch designer each month.

Laces

On this layout I used the cardboard packaging for my foundation. I tore a layer off and then painted it in gesso. I then used the mists we received in our color add on to color the cardboard background. I revisited some older techniques such as paper rolling and embossing on my cuttlebug. The paper rolls here add great texture and dimension to this layout. I ran the gold paper through my cuttlebug with a swirly embossing folder. I then inked it in the rusty hinge ink we received in our kit. The letters are grunge board. I painted them and inked them to make them very grungy.
My daughters and I did a photoshoot with my friend this past fall. We all wore our favorite jeans, sweaters and moccasins. We would have been a perfect match except mine did not have laces. I did my journaling on my computer I just love that font. Then I used a spellbinders die to make the journal tag.

Here is a close up of the paper rolls and the embossing.

Time Traveler

This is a photo of my daughter that was taken on that same photo shoot. I thought this title was perfect for her pose here. I cut my clock diecut up and used another bo bunny timepiece under it. Again, I ran it through my cuttlebug and inked it for added texture. I used one of the rub ons right on the photo. I love how that came out. The tags and little page protector rings are from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology collection we also received in the kit. I added those chip board peices to the frame mat that I made. I wanted them to resemble hinges. I also made the flower clusters in the bottom right hand corner. I used the gorgeous red cardstock in our kit and then used my LaBlanche stamp to stamp the flowers with the script first. Then I layered them and put them together. That would be the Tim Holtz tattered floral die.
I also used an alphabet stamp to make my title. I stamped on craft paper and cut out the little letters.

Time Out

I really wanted to show how you could take a paper line perceived as masculine and make it feminine. That wasn't my original plan. My original plan was to scrap photos of my husband with it! Uh-oh!
When I received the kit and saw the papers in person these photos came to mind.  I thought they were perfect for it and then it took on a life of it's own. You understand right?

I put my crackle to stamp to use A LOT this month. I stamped the background paper and those little book covers (TH Idea-ology) pieces again. I wanted them to look like books on this page. I layered the punched paper strips and inked them. I made those flowers using all paper from the kit. I also used the TH tattered floral die and a flower punch die.  I love how they came out. (I will be posting tutorials on all the flowers I made this month - stay tuned)  I also did a little something different and printed my daughters photo on vellum. It looks really cool in real life. The texture of the cardstock shows through to give it almost a linen look.
On the graphic 45 metal flowers I used some alcohol ink to give them color. The black velvet ribbon came in the kit and was perfect for this layout.

Oh wait! I did manage to squeeze in one layout of my husband! This was when he was little. I don't think he was too happy about it. Every time I went to work on it the photo was hidden somewhere.

Lately I have been distressing my punched borders. I like the texture and interest it adds. I just pull off pieces here and there. I took the ZVA flower and pulled that apart too. I made three flowers out of it using the G45 metal flowers as the centers.

I have a bit of Dusty Attic in my stash so I added the hinges to this layout. I painted them in brown and white using my paint dabbers. Then I stamped in black using my crackle stamp. I then filled in the holes with a copper color liquid pearls.  I cut those flower pods on my Silhouette.

I did a lot of stitching on this layout. I also used the moss and burlap in the kit. The script is the stamp that came in the color add on and again more crackle stamping on the Tim Holtz page piece.

I have a couple of more layouts brewing from this kit that I will be sharing over the next couple of weeks along with some flower tutorials. I hope I have inspired you to go check out this amazing kit at SOD and see what the other designers have created!

Thank you for visiting me today. I love and appreciate all your kind comments.
